The short bullet point version:
  • Born of Scottish parents grew up in London – emigrated at the age of 16 to Joburg.
  • Studied art at the Joburg Art Ballet and Music school – Sculpture. Began career in printing and publishing moved into advertising.
  • 30 years in advertising as award winning Creative Director – accounts such as – Coca Cola, Nissan, L’Oreal, Camel, Xerox, Opel , 702 radio, Kreepy Krauly, and many others. Worked locally, London, New York. Multinational agencies and local agencies.
  • Left the industry in 1999. Began lecturing. Various learning institutions. AAA school of advertising, IMM, Bond University, CT Business School, Wits Business School, Vega Brand School.
  • Lectures in Innovation, Communication, Creative Development and Creative Recovery.
  • In 2005 studied Consciousness Coaching at ICC.
  • Works as a lecturer, speaker, coach and consultant to business wherever he can be of help.
  • Positions himself as the “Developer of Great People” – he believes “The magic is within you, I will help you get it out”. Philosophy “To give back”.
The longer more colourful version

I was born in 1953 (one of seven children) to Scottish parents – in the small town of South Ockendon, Essex (on the outskirts of London) – which is about 40 miles directly east of Buckingham Palace – and that’s as close to royalty – that I guess, I’ll ever get.

I grew up, in and around London, and was shaped and influenced by the ideas of the sixties.

In 1969 – at the developing age of sixteen – our family (or some of it) immigrated to South Africa. I was not particularly gifted as a scholar – preferring to play football and watch telly – than put any real effort into studying maths, language, history, science or anything else, of real value, for that matter.
